Beauty Hacks for Hair
Shampoo
Simple step, but very necessary. Regardless of your hair type, use a mild shampoo with no added ingredients. Once a month use a clarifying shampoo to really clean your hair and scalp.
Conditioner
- If you have fine hair that tends to be oily, add conditioner to the ends only, then rinse well. Once your hair is dry, add an alcohol-based mousse for volume.
- Fine hair that's dry needs a conditioner that will nourish your hair without weighing it down. Products with soy protein or kelp will work better than heavy oil-based conditioners.
- For coarse hair that tends to get oily, use a lightweight oil-free conditioner. Gel will tame your hair without adding too much volume. Dry shampoo can be applied to the roots to prevent scalp from looking oily.
- Coarse, dry hair needs a special treatment and oil-based conditioners. After you dry your hair, apply argan oil to the ends only. Put a few drops in your palm and rub both hands together, then stroke the ends of your hair.
Beauty Hacks for Skin
Oil
Oil is in for your skin in 2018. Use it to hydrate your lips and treat rough spots on your face before applying lipstick and foundation. And cleansing your face with oil will get all of the makeup off. Follow up with a water-based facial cleanser and your skin will remain moist and hydrated. Coconut oil is a great choice for cleaning off makeup, especially if you have problems with acne. It's a natural antibacterial and anti-fungal product with healing properties for skin.
Exfoliation
Shaving isn't just for your legs anymore. Did you know that shaving your face is actually a gentle form of exfoliation? It can also be gentler on your skin than removing facial hair by waxing or using hair-removal products. The peach fuzz that ladies tend to get as they grow older is not a good look under makeup!
Acne
Acne treatment ideas are all over the internet, but this one really seems to work. Baking soda can soothe inflamed acne blemishes and it's an efficient exfoliant. It also absorbs excess oil from your skin. The foaming action of toothpaste helps lift grime and oil from clogged pores. Try mixing equal parts of each into a paste for your face. Add water as needed to get the right consistency. Then, use a new toothbrush to gently scrub your face in a circular motion. When you wash it off, you'll be getting rid of dead skin cells and grime at the same time.
Beauty Hacks for Makeup
Eyeshadow
Go gold with eyeshadow and blush that gives a subtle sparkle to your face. Highlight your best features with a dusting of glimmer, and don't forget your décolletage and shoulders.
Eye Liner
Pick a color for your under-eye liner. You know the way the liner underneath your eyes seems to expand and blur as the day goes on? If you use teal or sea foam green, it will look as if you meant for it to look that way!
Eyebrows
Brush your brows, because it makes a big difference in how they look. First, fill them in with your favorite pencil liner. Then, take that eyebrow brush and give them a firm upsweep. Some of the color will come off at the same time, but that only makes them look more natural.
Eye Lashes
Magnetic lashes are a wonderful new invention, especially if you don't like mascara. Tiny magnets hold them in place on your upper lashes, giving them a full and natural appearance. You can even dab a bit of mascara on the ends if you want.
Lips
Peppermint for plump lips is an idea that's old enough to be new in 2018. If you're aiming for an extra-special look, dab a drop of peppermint oil on your lips before you add lipstick. You'll get that bee-stung look you're after.
Lip Liner
White lip liner covers up your natural lip line, letting you draw one wherever it suits you. Dab a little bit of foundation on top, and then use your favorite colored lip liner.
Cheeks
Dewy cheeks make your skin look young and fresh, so don't go overboard on the foundation and powder. Clear lip gloss will help give your cheeks a natural-looking glow, and so will powder with a bit of shine to it.
Setting Spray
Setting spray or powder will give your makeup efforts more longevity. Once you're completely finished fixing your face, blot it with a tissue to remove excess makeup and powder. Then lightly spray or dust from forehead to chin.
